Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation. The admissions process begins with a referral and a pre-placement interview which is essential to determining how an individualized treatment program can meet the needs of each youth.

LSS has a long, rich history of serving the at-risk youth of Wisconsin. Homme Youth and Family Programs offers residential treatment that meet the needs of youth through therapeutic treatment, education, and a structured milieu living environment. A team of professional therapists, case manager, teaching personnel and living unit staff provide services from an array of reputable and proven modalities that help troubled youth thrive. Today, Homme’s residential treatment center continues to welcome and serve male youth and adolescents who are traumatized, struggling or are in danger of entering the adult criminal justice system.

Homme Youth & Family Programs is our flagship program, originally opening in 1882 when Pastor E.J. Homme opened a home for orphaned children in Wittenberg, Wisconsin. These roots of care have served as the blueprint for all LSS services for the past 140 years.
Additionally, each RTC cottage is supported by a licensed therapist who determines and supervises the implementation of each child’s treatment plan. All of our residents have access to individual, family and group therapy. DBT for short, it is a set of skills that helps with relationships, emotions, behavioral issues, and overall well-being. We have a fully integrated DBT treatment meaning our staff models the same behaviors.
Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Recreational therapy uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. Due to the young age of many of our children, play therapy techniques are used extensively.

The second wilderness program shut down because people kept digging the news about a death years back under a different management up. Sunrise offers fully Adherent and Integrated DBT treatment. Our therapists, teachers, and residential staff are trained in DBT.
